Anil Shergill’s script ‘Made For Each Other’ selected for New York Screenwriting Awards Festival
Screenwriter Anil Shergill has added yet another feather to his cap, with his script ‘Made For Each Other’ making it to the prestigious New York Screenwriting Awards Festival (NYSAF). Among hundreds of global submissions, Shergill’s screenplay stood out as one of the few selected for featuring at the festival.
With a sharp cinematic mind honed over decades in the music and movie business, Shergill wrote ‘Made For Each Other’ with a clear vision, inspired by two specific Hollywood actors and a Bollywood actor he had in mind throughout the scripting process. While he humbly chooses not to reveal names, he maintains that seasoned directors would know precisely which stars could be cast or replaced based on availability.
Shergill’s official website showcases a congratulatory selection letter from the NYSAF, validating the script’s inclusion among the chosen few. While the total number of submissions was not formally declared by the festival, Shergill mentions that his industry associate estimated around 300 entries were received, out of which only about 30 were selected — placing ‘Made For Each Other’ in an elite 10% bracket.
The film, described as both historically anchored and humanly compelling, delves into complex themes of identity, relationships, and transformation across generations of the Indian subcontinent. Shergill has tactfully left room for layered interpretation, making the script globally adaptable and festival-friendly.
Although he has written sporadically — specifically for Siddharth Kak’s ‘Bawaji Ka Bioscope’ on Doordarshan (one episode in English, which was approved and adapted in Hindi) — ‘Made For Each Other’ is written in the English language, with a view to a global release, including a title in Hindi for an India release.
Known for his nuanced storytelling and socio-cultural sensitivity, Anil Shergill continues to be a quiet yet powerful force in the world of screenwriting — blending rich narrative with cinematic gravitas. His script’s recognition at NYSAF is not just a personal win, but also a mark of continued excellence from one of India’s seasoned storytellers.
