‘War 2’ to be first Indian film released in Dolby
Yash Raj Films’ highly anticipated action thriller ‘War 2’ is set to make cinematic history as the first Indian film to be released in Dolby Cinema. Scheduled for a worldwide premiere on 14 August 2025, the film will debut in this premium format both in India and across several international markets, including North America, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait.
‘War 2’ is directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra. It serves as the sixth instalment of the successful YRF Spy Universe, following the blockbuster ‘War’ from 2019. The cast features Hrithik Roshan reprising his role, joined by Jr. NTR in his Bollywood debut and Kiara Advani in a leading role. The film will be available in Hindi and Telugu, with dubbed versions in Tamil, further expanding its reach.
The film’s arrival in Dolby Cinema represents a landmark moment for Indian filmmaking, leveraging the immersive experience made possible by Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Audiences will benefit from ultra-vivid visuals and deeply immersive sound, heightening the impact of every sequence. In India, the initial Dolby Cinema venue is City Pride Multiplexes in Kharadi, Pune, with additional screens soon opening in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Trichy, Kochi, and Ulikkal.
This collaboration continues a longstanding tradition of technological innovation between Yash Raj Films and Dolby. Previous milestones in their partnership include YRF’s adoption of Dolby Audio for ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ in 1995 and introduction of Dolby Atmos with the blockbuster ‘Dhoom:3’ in 2013. More recently, YRF became the first Indian music label to offer Dolby Atmos Music with its ‘Best of YRF’ album in 2020.
Representatives from both Yash Raj Films and Dolby Laboratories have celebrated this development. Rohan Malhotra, Vice President of Distribution at Yash Raj Films, noted the company’s ongoing commitment to pushing cinematic boundaries and delivering unforgettable experiences. Michael Archer, Vice President of Worldwide Cinema Sales and Partner Management at Dolby, highlighted how the debut of ‘War 2’ in Dolby Cinema marks a significant leap forward for how stories are experienced in India.
With its high-octane storytelling, star power, and technical excellence, ‘War 2’ is poised not only to set new standards for Indian blockbusters but also to redefine premium moviegoing for audiences at home and abroad.
