Music Review: Berlin’s Batmanka and Stockholm’s Vintej’s single ‘Naan Factory’ feels hollow
Berlin’s Batmanka and Stockholm’s Vintej take on an ambitious cross-cultural project with ‘Naan Factory,’ a techno/house reimagining of the Bollywood classic number “Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai” from the Subhash Ghai movie Khalnayak.
The track on Spotify opens with deep basslines and trippy, hypnotic rhythms that initially hold promise, suggesting an engaging blend of Bollywood nostalgia with Western electronic elements. However, the excitement quickly fades as the composition falls into a repetitive pattern that feels uninspired and monotonous.
Despite its energetic undertones and dance-ready pulse, ‘Naan Factory’ fails to introduce any real musical variety or fresh reinterpretation. The synthesiser-heavy approach remains virtually unchanging throughout, producing a soundscape that, while suitable for club environments, feels hollow and lacks the dynamic flair needed to elevate it beyond background music.
Although the fusion of East and West in ‘Naan Factory’ sets the stage for an intriguing remix, the track doesn’t fully deliver on its potential, leaving listeners with a track that’s more of a familiar beat than a memorable experience.
